Summer provides an ideal time for incoming freshmen to get a head start, current students to get ahead, transfer students to enroll, and professionals to update their skills. Learn from world-class faculty in the convenience of your home or office, all at Virginia's most affordable public doctoral university.

With more than 35 years of experience in distance learning, Old Dominion University is a national leader. U.S. News & World Report named ODU as a "Best Online Program" in 2022. What type of Summer Student will you be?

Register for your summer classes like you would for the Fall or Spring semester. 

ODU students enrolled in summer classes benefit from flexible course schedules, instruction from world-class faculty and remote learning opportunities.

Use LeoOnline for registration, scheduling or to make payment online. Housing information is available on the ODU Housing Portal.

Visiting students (also known as non-degree seeking students) must complete and submit an online application for admission to enroll in any courses.

As a visiting student, you have access to ODU's renowned faculty, classes, services and remote and online course opportunities. To apply as a visiting student, click here and follow the next steps:

  • Click Create an account
  • Select to start either Undergraduate or Graduate application
  • For "what type of student are you," select Non-Degree Certificate/Visiting Student
  • For "which program would you like to study," select Non-Degree
  • For "Term," select Summer
  • On the ODU application under Fee Waiver Eligibility, select I am a visiting student taking summer classes
  • Allow 48 hours for processing non-degree application

If you have not yet applied for admission, go here! Enroll and begin classes as early as May or as late as July.

Returning students, sometimes referred to as continuing or readmit students, are degree-seeking students who previously attended Old Dominion University and have been gone from the university for at least one year.

All undergraduate degree-seeking students who voluntarily separated from the university while in good academic standing are eligible to apply to be readmitted. 

There are a few steps to follow before you can start your summer courses, which can be found here.
